Licorice root

The root of the licorice plant, not to be confused with today’s black licorice candy, is a tyrosinase inhibitor. Sun exposure can cause increased production of melanin. This often causes patchy, uneven skin tone. Licorice root is one of the natural agents that protects and repairs this hyperpigmentation largely due to its glabrene content. Honey

An amazing natural ingredients gifted to us by Bees. Honey has a lot of anti oxidants and has natural antibacterial properties. It is often used on top of wounds and blemishes. It also has moisturizing and skin softening effects. Found in our soaps.

Turmeric

Turmeric powder has long been used by African women to perfect the glow and clarity of their skin. Today Western countries are now recognizing the value of turmeric to combat skin imperfections. Found in our soaps and scrub.

Hibiscus

In Nigeria we do not only use hibiscus to make calming drinks(which is by far better than any soda) it is also used to brighten and calm the skin. It is a wonderful Botox plant. Found in our cleansing balm.

Natural African black soap

Though this is not a single ingredient, African black soap is probably one of the most crucial products for healthy skin. Using recipes handed down for hundreds of years, women in remote villages in Nigeria produce African black soap from charred cacao and plantain. This no-lye soap breaks down dead skin as it banishes blemishes. It often works better than chemical created ingredients yet is soothing to the skin.

Sandalwood

We absolutely love the sweet smell of this herb but it’s function goes beyond just giving cosmetics a nice scent. It does wonders for the skin too. It brightens the skin and reduces blemishes and also gently exfoliates the skin leaving it soft and smooth. Found in our soaps.

Aloe vera is a succulent plant that’s been used for its healing properties for centuries. The aloe vera plant is most famous for its healing abilities when used on the skin. Aloe vera comprises of vitamins, amino acids, minerals and enzymes, which provide its skin-soothing effect. It also does a wonderful job in hydrating and keeping the skin supple. Hyaluronic acid

Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the skin. It is a humectant that binds to water giving the skin a plump and well hydrated look. It helps in the reduction of scaring and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Constant use of hyaluronic acid can give a smoother skin texture that has a dewy look. Available in our Radiant face moisturizer.

Rosehip oil

Rosehip oil is gotten from the Rosehip fruits. It has amazing benefits but it is first and foremost an ultra-effective emollient and moisturizer . It contains high levels of essential fatty acids, especially omega-3 (linolenic acid) and omega-6 (linoleic acid), which makes rosehip seed oil effectively soften skin and improve skin barrier function. Rosehip oil is a major component of our Barrier fix face oil.

Grapeseed oil

Grapeseed oil comes from the pressed seeds of grapes. It is a light weight oil that helps to improve skin elasticity and softness. Grapeseed oil contains a powerful antioxidant ingredient called proanthocyanidin. It also has a high vitamin E content which makes it an amazing antioxidant that helps even out skin tone when used consistently. Grapeseed oil is found in our barrier fix face oil, Balm to oil cleanser and our Radiant face moisturizer.

Sea buckthorn oil

It is extracted from the berries, leaves, and seeds of the sea buckthorn plant (Hippophae rhamnoides), which is a small shrub that grows at high altitudes in the northwest Himalayan region. Sea buckthorn will reduce inflammation in the skin, prevent future flare ups, help to fade scars and promote an overall more even and smoother skin texture. It’s suitable for all skin types. Can be found in our barrier fix face oil.

Niacinamide

Niacinamide is a topical version of vitamin B3. It is a well tolerated skincare ingredient that is compatible with all skin types. Niacinamide can improve skin hydration by preventing evaporation of moisture from the skin into the environment. It’s also a natural anti-inflammatory ingredient, so it’s great for calming irritated skin. It also helps to control sebum production. This ingredient is found in our Radiant face moisturizer.

Lactic acid

Lactic acid; an alpha hydroxy acid(AHA) is a chemical exfoliant that comes from the fermentation of lactose. Its use dates back to ancient Egypt. It was said that Cleopatra used to bathe in sour milk for youthful skin. Unlike other AHAs, lactic acid helps in keeping the skin hydrated while evening out the skin tone by increasing cell turnover thereby increasing collagen production. Lactic acid is very essential in the treatment of hyperpigmentation. Lactic acid is found in our 5% AHA tonning solution and in our exfoliating body lotion.
